Conference Chat Etiquette

1. Be kind. We're warm, welcoming flower folk here. Introduce yourself, say where you're from, and connect with other flower friends. The chat tool is a great way to get event-wide conversations going or ask questions.

2. If you have a question, wait until the speaker opens the floor. This will help minimize distractions for the educator and other attendees alike. Once the floor is opened for questions, ask away!

3. Everyone can see your event chat message! The messages sent in the event chat appear for the whole group. We love this feature: This is an excellent way to get group conversations going! For private messaging individual attendees, see the next section in this guide.

4. Do not use the event-wide chat feature for tech help. To respect the educational experience of everyone in attendance, we have a private messaging system for tech help questions. If needed, visit this section for more info on tech help:

How to Use the Event Chat Tool (Public)

1. To chat with the entire event attendee list, ask questions, share ideas, and more, use the Chat feature in the right side of the digital venue.

2. Ensure you have the "Chat" tab selected. (This is automatic, unless you've selected "Polls" or "People" in the chat.)

3. Simply type your message via the text caption at the bottom and hit send. Remember, everyone in attendance can see your message.

How to Send a Private Chat Message or Schedule an Individual Meeting

If you'd like to send a private message to another attendee, it's easy!

  1. Select the "People" tab option in the chat tool.

  2. You'll see a list of all attendees.

  3. Click on the person's name who you'd like to message.

  4. Then, simply type your message and hit send!

  5. You can also set up a meeting or invite the individual to a video call via this method.

To resume prior private messages, you don't have to search an individual's name. Simply go to your "direct messages" at the top right of the screen using the paper airplane symbol.

How to Chat Within a Breakout Session, Panel Session, or Vendor Booth

The session, panel, and vendor booth chat function works exactly the same as the event chat function.

However, ensure that you're chatting within your room, instead of the whole event attendee list. Here's how:

  1. To chat with the entire group in the breakout session, panel, or vendor booth, use the Chat feature in the right side of the digital venue.

  2. Ensure you have "Session" or "Booth" selected, depending on your location in the venue. This is automatic when you're in a session room or vendor booth. However, if you select "Event," you'll be chatting with the whole event, instead of the people in your session or booth.

  3. Simply type your message via the text caption at the bottom and hit send. Remember, everyone in attendance in the room can see your message.
